Review the definition of intercultural conflict (p. 374). Take note that the struggle can be based on perceived or actual incompatibility. Look to the news and scan current stories (those published within the past two years). Select a story where the conflict was based on perceived incompatibility, not necessarily actual incompatibility. Also be sure the conflict is relevant to culture. (Note: it may take you some time to find a useful news story. Be patient—you will find something.). Provide a link to this news story here: Briefly summarize the story. Then take time to connect the conflict issue to perception; explain in detail how the conflict, at the source, is perceptual and not based on a physical obstacle. Select a story where the conflict was based on actual incompatibility, not perceptual differences. Again, be sure the conflict is relevant to culture. Provide a link to this new story here: Briefly summarize the story. Then take time to explain why this is NOT perceptual. Finally, connect this to one of the levels of intercultural conflict (Kim).
