Nursing Report
The Institute of Medicine Future of Nursing Report (IOM) describes the need for nurses to practice at the full extent of their education and training to expand the scope of practice for master’s prepared and advance practice nurses. This report has many implications for nursing practice and the health care system in general. 1. Briefly define “scope of practice” and give an example of what it will mean for advanced practice nurses or educators. 2. As an advanced practice nurse or nurse educator, how does this IOM report affect nursing practice or in the educator role how does it affect teaching pedagogy? 3. Identify ONE barrier you perceive (real or imagined) that might impede advanced practice nurses or educators from fully practicing to the full extent of their education? Discuss how this barrier might impede health care. 4.One IOM recommendation is to expand the master’s prepared nurse’s scope of practice. Give one example of how this might occur in California. Identify and discuss at least ONE positive outcomes.
