Case Study: Nurse-Led Initiative Objective Analyze the skills and behaviors of nurse leaders Discussion Overview This discussion forum has students analyze the skills and behaviors of nurse leaders. Deliverables Participation in the discussion forum, including the following: Responses to the initial questions Responses to at least two other students’ posts Step 1 Read the case study. You are a staff nurse on one of the medical-surgical units in your organization. You approach the nurse manager with an idea to make a change in practice on the unit that is supported by evidence-based research. The manager is interested in your idea and feels that an additional review of the literature and search of professional websites and clinical practice guidelines should be conducted. Additionally, a formal proposal should be developed that could be brought forth to the hospital s professional practice council committee for consideration. The nurse manager is impressed with your passion and the initiative that you took to bring this idea forward. She feels that you should lead the initiative and asks that you put together a team consisting of a few of your colleagues to complete the searches, compile the information, and bring forth the proposal to the council. Step 2 Post a response to the discussion board. After reviewing the case study, respond to each of the case considerations that follow: Identify the leadership skills and behaviors you would need to possess as the leader of this initiative. Explain why these skills and behaviors would be important in this particular case. What can you do to build on your current leadership skills and traits and give examples?
