Modest Proposal

Create your own Modest Proposal For this paper, I want you to create your own “Modest Proposal.” In four pages, double-spaced, write a satiric response to what you see as a current or historical national/ cultural/ institutional problem. Propose a parodic ‘corrective’ to this problem in a way that exposes the weakness of your satiric target(s), rather than offers a viable solution. While writing, think about what opportunities and license posing as the ‘enemy’ provides (as opposed to criticizing your enemy from a removed perspective). You will be evaluated on the cleverness of your idea, the smoothness and style of your writing, your use of Swift’s satirical devices (hyperbole, diminution, parody, irony, jargon, etc.), and originality.
