Your essay should be about 800–1000 words (three to four pages) in length Read lectures 6–8 in the study unit on Liberal Democracy and some of the sources listedunder Readings. Your introduction must focus on two issues – first, whether you believe the statement inthe question to be true, partly true or false, and second, the reasons for your stance.22 The body of your essay should contain a logical explanation of your stance in theintroduction. As part of your answer it is important to explain why the American constitutionentrenched a culture of democracy and freedom amongst white Americans, whileprotecting the institution of slavery. Wrap up your argument in the conclusion.
