The spread of international jihadi terrorism over the last two decades has played a key role in shaping perceptions of Muslims in both North America and Europe, and contributing to the rise of what is often referred to as “Islamophobia.” But negative stereotyping of Muslims residing in the West preceded this jihadist wave of attacks. What are the “deeper” causes of those negative stereotypes of Muslims in Europe? What “deeper” causes explain negative stereotyping of Muslims in America? In your opinion, are those negative stereotypes an impediment to successful integration of Muslim in the U.S. and Europe in the future?
