Write a paper (8-10 double-spaced pages in 12-point type with 1-inch margins) that summarizes the material, highlighting the main critical points. This is not meant to be a restatement of the facts but a critical engagement with the material. Each chapter covers different cultures in a broader geographic area. What ties these music cultures together under one chapter heading? Are there other ways the material could be organize? What are the different genres—classical, popular, traditional, religious—and how do they function in their cultural setting? How do the interact or not? Cite specific examples to illustrate your point. The paper must include commentary on the music examples. Rely on your critical listening skills developed in this course to meaningfully discuss what you hear. In the paper, you must also incorporate material from four outside scholarly sources and correctly cite them in the body of the paper. Include a “References Cited” at the end of the paper. I choose the fifth chapter “Europe/Central and Southeastern Regions” to summarize.
