A Typical Lunch
PROMPT A:Briefly describe your typical lunch. What are some of the ingredients? For example, if you typically have a salad for lunch, you can deconstruct the salad to list everything from tomatoes to dressing. For the purposes of this activity, assume that none of the food is organic or purchased at a local organic farmer’s market. This is good old grocery store, local diner, fast food, street food fare. Feel free to add a beverage to your description.PROMPT B:Now that you have described your typical lunch, do a simple search on the Internet (for example, chemicals in wheat or pollutants in wheat) and proceed to list some of the chemicals and pollutants for some of the ingredients in your lunch (minimum of 4).Having researched some of the chemicals and pollutants that find their way into our food supply, please answer the following questions:How do you feel about all the chemicals/pollutants that find their way into your lunch? Were you surprised by some of the things you found? Why?Find one or two sentences in Cronon, Steingraber and Williams’ essay that underscore your concern. Feel free to also argue against these thinkers if you do no share their concerns.Post one or two interesting links that provided you with information concerning the chemicals and pollutants listed in your charts. Describe the links and why you found them informative (or misleading as the case may be).
